Here’s the quick story: I’m going to give you permission to be arrogant.
You will not be given permission to be a jerkass. You will not be given permission to be unkind.
But arrogance? I’m about to give you that.
Look at this guy:
Is President Trump arrogant? Without a doubt. It’s one of the things he’s known for. How often does he say things about America being great? Or we’re going to do amazing things? Plenty. It’s the sort of thing an arrogant person says.
How often does he say America is going to, oh, it might be an OK place, maybe? Never.
Sure, he isn’t always the nicest about things (remember that I’m not giving you a pass around being nice or kind, you still need those things). President Trump has absolute faith in what he’s saying 100% of the time. He is convinced of what he’s saying, which convinces others of what he’s saying.
This isn’t an argument about the President or his policies. Feel free to have that discussion. I know I have thoughts of my own about that.
What I want is for you–for all of us–to see what we’re capable of and say it with absolute conviction. I’ve done this before and been called arrogant for it.
But I was still nice, I was still kind, and I was still convinced I’d written a high-quality story.
Like him or not, the President is convinced when he says something. We should be convinced when we say things as well, no matter what it is we talk about.
That’s why I’m giving you permission to be arrogant. Make sure you’re nice and kind too.
